National Honor Society
Mrs. Siobhan M. VisserAdvisorThe National Honor Society (NHS) is the nation's premier organization established to recognize outstanding high school students. More than just an honor roll, NHS serves to recognize those students who have demonstrated excellence in the areas of scholarship, service, leadership, and character. These characteristics have been associated with membership in the organization since its beginning in 1921. The selection process for membership in the National Honor Society begins by identifying students with the qualifying 3.2 grade point average. The high school faculty then screens these students. Next, the Faculty Council makes its recommendations based on the evaluation of the faculty screenings and student records. Invitations are then extended to potential candidates who complete an application, in which they highlight their character, leadership, and service. These three components, along with scholarship, form the basis.

SADD Club
Wash High’s SADD (Students against Destructive Decisions) Club was established for the purpose of providing Wash High students with a forum to promote health and safety in their school and community. Additionally, it empowers students to educate their peers in the areas of substance abuse, relationships and positive choices. Students are encouraged to join to help make a difference.
SADD helps promote a No-Use message -- no alcohol, no tobacco, no illegal substances – we do this through positive peer pressure, support and activism. Peer pressure is known to have a significant influence on the decisions made by teens today.

Ski Club
Ms. Michele RadachyESL TeacherThe Washington Ski Club consists of students who have a common interest to learn how to ski or snowboard, share downhill skiing and snowboarding experiences, to improve abilities and knowledge, to save money on trips, and to socialize during the winter months with a broad range of students.
The Washington Ski Club is open to all Washington School District students from grades 7- 12. Sixth grade students are invited to go on 2-3 ski trips on a first come, first serve basis. The Ski Club supports the Washington School District Wellness policy by offering students an opportunity to develop an interest in a life long sport. The Ski Trips are at a discounted price, which is usually 40% off daily rates at the ski resorts. These discounts are also available to the family members of the students.
Each year, 4-5 trips are planned between Hidden Valley and Seven Springs Ski Resorts. The students leave after the school day, on a Thursday or Friday, and return around 10:30 or 11:00 p.m. that same evening. Two lessons are required, per season, for all students who do not own their own skis. Helmets are mandatory for ALL students, and this cost is not included in the ski trip prices. Safety, while having fun, is our main concern!
