  • Bigs in Blue

    Fourth-graders at Washington Park Elementary are getting to know local law enforcement with the “Bigs in Blue” program. Big Brothers and Big Sisters of Greater Pittsburgh began the program in Pittsburgh, and this is the first time it has been implemented in Washington County.

  • Ron Faust and Tayshawn Levy Honored

    Retiring Basketball Coach Ron Faust was honored for his devotion to Wash High Basketball with 36 years served and more games won in Wash High history. Meanwhile, one of his last team members, Tayshawn Levy, is honored for scoring 1000 points in his high school basketball playing.

  • Students of the Month - May 2022

    Washington School Board recognized Students of the Month for May at their workshop meeting held on May 2, 2022. Principals from the elementary, junior and senior high talked about why each student was nominated by his or her teachers to be a Student of the Month.

  • New Board Member Appointed

    The school board voted April 11th to appoint Mrs. Jennifer Ewing of Washington to the board. Mrs. Ewing will fill the remaining term of Karen Ruby through 2023. Ms. Ruby  submitted her resignation to the board at the end of March.

  • Wheeling Symphony Uses Music to Teach Science

    Washington Park’s first to fourth grade students were treated to a special sound extravaganza – a Young People’s concert on April 5, 2022 performed by the Wheeling Symphony Orchestra entitled “Sound Lab with the Symphony.”

  • 84 Lumber to donate Digital Scoreboard in Memory of Employee

    When Wash High 2020 graduate Caleb Lee Jackson died in a motorcycle accident on May 13, 2021, the Prexie community suffered a tremendous loss. Not only was Jackson a 2019 All Conference and All District football star and Prexie basketball star, his winning personality and smile made everyone feel good.

  • Washington School District Recognizes Maintenance and Custodial Staff (Click here to watch Video)

    Washington School District recognized and thanked its custodial and maintenance staff at the board meeting on March 21.  National Cleaning week is March 27th-April 2 and all  were especially recognized for the extra efforts made by the staff during the covid pandemic.

  • Wash High - Only County School Involved in Special Black History Month program

    English teacher Treg Campbell took 11 AP English Language pupils to Soldiers and Sailors Memorial Hall as the 4th Annual High School Student Black History Summit unfolded on March 9th.. Established as "a strategic effort to enrich the lives of African-Americans, in Western Pennsylvania, Stop the Violence! Pittsburgh presented a riveting Black History Month program that shined a spotlight on topics as vast as the Charles "Teenie" Harris Archive (a Pittsburgh native) and the Tulsa Race Massacre.

  • Students of the Month - March 2022

    The Washington School District honored Students of the Month for March at the March 14th board meeting. The students had been nominated by their teachers for their extra efforts in the classroom and always striving to be their best. March winners are (seated) sixth grader Faith Tennant and second grader Alina Belcastro, and (standing) Jaycee Nixon, Issiah Patterson, both seniors; and 8th grader Joseph Wilson. Congratulations to all!

  • Kindergarten Registration - A busy day at Washington Park

    On Friday, March 4th,  85 Washington families came to the Washington Park Elementary School throughout the day to register their children for Kindergarten for the 2022-23 School Year.

  • Freshman Wins a Special Prize for Outdoor Activities' Essay

    Michael Nixon is a 15 -year-old Wash High freshman who enjoys the outdoors and outdoor activities like fishing and hunting. However, living in the city, he isn’t able to enjoy those outdoor activities like he does when visiting some cousins and friends that live in more rural areas of the county.

  • Wash High Students Recognized for Essays

    The Common Ground Teen Center, 92 N. Main St., Washington, held their 12th Annual Black History Month Showcase on Thursday, March 3rd.   Four Washington High School seniors were recognized for their essay submissions to the Teen Outreach Black History Month Essay Contest.

    The school board recognized the February Students of the Month at the Feb. 14th board meeting. The principals introduced the students and discussed their various accomplishments and activities as provided by the teachers who nominated them.

  • Education Partnership Helps During Covid

    Despite the pandemic not allowing assemblies, the elementary school students received "power tool kits" of pencils, crayons, rulers, and other school supplies as they have for the past few years. Again, one of the major local sponsors was Washington Financial, along with Ansys.
